Knee & Hip Degeneration

The two joints that carry your whole weight, wearing down together.

What is Knee & Hip Degeneration?

Knees and hips take the brunt of daily weight-bearing, so when cartilage wears thin here it shows up fast — stiffness getting out of a chair, a limp by the end of a long walk, stairs that suddenly feel like a chore. Because these joints share so much mechanical load, problems in one often quietly affect the other, which is why hip pain can masquerade as knee pain and vice versa.

How regenerative medicine supports it

We examine both joints together, not just the one that hurts, since a stiff hip can force a knee to compensate and eventually break down too. MSC therapy and PRP are injected under imaging guidance to support cartilage and reduce inflammation, with walking distance and stair tolerance tracked as our real measure of progress rather than repeat scans. Where a joint space has closed completely, we say so directly — a joint replacement will serve you far better than another round of injections.

If the evidence for treating knee & hip degeneration this way is thin, we will tell you before you book — and the review is not billed.

Knee & Hip Degeneration — Questions Patients Ask

My knee hurts but my hip is stiffer, which do we treat?

Often both, since a stiff hip changes how you walk and load the knee. We assess the whole leg mechanically before deciding where to focus.

Will this let me avoid a knee or hip replacement?

Sometimes it defers one by years; sometimes it changes little. The honest predictor is how much cartilage remains, and we'll tell you which side of that line you're on after imaging.

Can both joints be treated in the same visit?

Yes, and many patients prefer it to avoid two separate recovery periods, though it does mean a few stiffer days afterwards.

How is progress actually measured?

By function — walking distance, stairs without a rail, how often pain wakes you at night. Repeat imaging rarely changes meaningfully within a year.

What if the joint is already bone-on-bone?

Then regenerative treatment has little structure left to support, and we'd rather refer you to an orthopaedic surgeon than delay the operation you actually need.
